Mountain Ash

Rowans or mountain-ashes trees are attractive, fast growing small deciduous trees 10-20 m tall in the genus Sorbus. They are native throughout the cool temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere and are extremely hardy. They have attractive dense creamy white flowers in spring and beautiful bright red fruits in late summer/autumn. The small red fruits are soft and juicy, which makes them a very good food for birds, particularly waxwings and thrushes, which then distribute the rowan seeds in their droppings.
